FIVE homeless people were rescued after a blaze broke out in a derelict building.
Thirty firefighters spent nine hours tackling the fire in Bishop Street, Coventry.
The city centre blaze broke out at 10pm on Sunday in a building next to the former Mr Porky takeaway.
Mike Fox, spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service, said: “Early on one man was rescued from the building and then later on during a search of nearby buildings four more were led to safety.
“By about 2.30am most of the fire was dealt with and firefighters spent the rest of the night dealing with hotspots and cutting away parts of the building.”
