Coventry Market is to open a free coconut shy.

On Saturday (September 5) shoppers will be given the chance to try their hand at the fairground favourite.

Coventry-born singer and actress Hazel O’Connor, famous for the film Breaking Glass, agreed to promote the shy.

She said: “I love to spend time in Cov Market, just browsing and finding so much diversity and the coconut shy is a great element of fun.”

Market Manager Brian Sexton added: “It's just a bit of fun for shoppers.

“Where else would you get the chance to let lose a bit of steam, and still stand a chance of winning something into the bargain”.

In addition to the coconut shy a Dalek will be taking time out of hunting down Dr Who to pose for photographs at the market.

Tickets for the shy are being given out at stalls with any purchase.
