The White Lion is a great pub – and it does a good Sunday roast too.
We ended up there after a walk through Coundon Wedge.
The place was already busy but we managed to get a table pretty quickly.
Despite being quite big it still retains a cosy homely feel.
There was a good selection of ales on tap and we all went for the award-winning Ruby Mild.
It was dark, exotic, moreish and a worthy winner at The Great British Beer Festival, 2009.
To eat I had the roast beef while my two partners opted for the goats’ cheese and chestnut Wellington.
They cost about ÂŁ7 each.
We told the waitress we were in a hurry and all three meals arrived within five minutes.
The beef was well cooked and the vegetables were gorgeous.
My Yorkshire pudding was a minor let down as it was a bit small and slightly soggy.
A forkful of the Wellington proved rich, tangy and delicious.
Although I couldn’t handle dessert my two dining partners couldn’t resist.
They ordered a sticky toffee pudding with dates and a fresh fruit jelly.
Both were stunning and cost about ÂŁ4.
