Best bit: The sweet and hot Kong-Po king prawn
Worst bit: Looks a bit like a greasy spoon cafe
It may look like a café but Han Dynasty is a culinary palace.
Bright lights, missing ceiling tiles, a widescreen TV and plastic looking tables do not usually accompany great food.
They do here.
I went for a sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style.
Not exactly adventurous but a favourite of mine.
And I was not disappointed for the perfectly reasonable £4.30.
The batter on the chicken was slightly thicker than most Hong Kong style chicken but it worked very well – glistening nicely in the wonderful syrupy sauce.
But it wasn’t the chicken that impressed most.
My partner’s Kong-Po king prawn (£4.50) was something else.
The prawns were crisp and luscious. The sauce was sweet, hot and extremely morish.
Both dishes were accompanied by a large egg fried rice (£2.70)..
Despite appearances Han Dynasty is a great place for a Chinese.
But we should have known that by the number of Chinese people eating there.
