Best bit: watching a fireball being hurled across a field
Worst bit: having to pay £3 for parking on top of your ticket price

As one of the most expensive local attractions going (with adult tickets at a stinging £17.95) we were ready to brand Warwick Castle overpriced and unrealistic.
So the fact it won us over within half an hour of arriving is no small feat.
Warwick Castle is half a dozen attractions rolled into one.
Most of our listed attractions will keep you occupied for a couple of hours, but you’ll stay at Warwick Castle all day and still not have seen everything.
There’s live entertainment, falconry displays, gardens with peacocks roaming free, a riverside walk, a mill and engine house museum, a Victorian rose garden, a spooky ghost tour… and did we mention the castle?
You can roam the medieval dungeons where the waxworks are amazingly life-like.
Jump forward a few centuries and you can tour the stately home, set in 1890.
The Kingmaker attraction is good for kids but send them in on their own – you’ll be bored.
And of course you can climb the spiral staircases for stunning views over Warwickshire from the castle ramparts. Across the river you can watch the world’s largest trebuchet (a giant wooden war machine that’s wound up by volunteers running in a huge hamster wheel) which propels objects (sometimes flaming) 25-metres into the air, landing 300-metres away.
Watch the little boys’ faces as the actor explains how rotting horse carcasses were lobbed across castle walls to drive out the occupants. Time your visit right and you could also be treated to a live jousting show.
No. It’s not cheap. But there’s something for everyone, it will keep you busy all day and it will be the highlight of any visitor’s weekend.
