ROBBERS beat two security guards around the legs with baseball bats during a raid at a Coventry supermarket.

The Securicor guards were attacked outside Tesco Express in Quorn Way after refusing to hand over cash.

The two culprits grabbed an undisclosed quantity of money before escaping in a silver Lexus – last seen heading towards Binley Road.

Police believe the car, registration T121 ANT, had been stolen in Walsgrave on Friday November 14.

The robbers wore black clothes and hooded tops during the raid at 11am yesterday.

This is the second armed robbery within a week in Coventry.

Last Friday three men – equipped with a crowbar, shotgun and pistol – targeted B&Q in Brandon Road, Willenhall.

They threatened staff and stole an undisclosed quantity of cash.

They escaped in a stolen black VW Golf.

Police have not revealed whether they believe the raids are linked.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with information is urged to call CID at Chace Avenue police station on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
