A PHOTO book capturing Coventry’s lesser-known beauty spots has been published.

Coventry: Hidden in Plain Sight is a 192-page colour hardback featuring more than 300 pictures of the city.

It is the work of Clare Selley – a 26-year-old amateur photographer and database manager at The University of Warwick.

She said: “If someone had told me this time last year I would be published I wouldn’t have believed it. It’s really surreal.”

Mrs Selley, of Stoney Stanton Road, was inspired by the BBC’s My Coventry project – a scheme encouraging listeners to take pictures of Coventry to show to the incoming council chief executive Martin Reeves.

She said: “After that I thought I would take part in Solo Photo Book Month where you create an entire online book in just a month.

“I must have taken about 10,000 pictures in total and when it was finished I showed it around the office and they said: ‘Why don’t you get it published?’

“I emailed publishers and Breedon Books agreed.”

Mrs Selley said she enjoyed taking photographs as a child but it was only last year that she began using an SLR camera – the type of camera used by professional photographers.

She hopes that her efforts will give readers a new insight into the city.

Mrs Selley said: “I wanted to change people’s perspective.

“When people think of Coventry they tend to think of the blitz, the cathedral, shopping centres and concrete.

“But there’s so much more to the city than that. It’s very decorative and has lots of history.”

Coventry: Hidden in Plain Sight, priced £16.99 and published by Breedon Books, is available to buy at Coventry Tourist Information Centre, Waterstones, Borders and The University Of Warwick.

Mrs Selley is also holding a book signing at Borders in Classic Drive on November 7 at 12noon.

The book is available to buy online at Amazon.
