Body discovered at motorway blaze

A FINGERTIP search of Warwickshire motorway was underway today after a body was discovered on an embankment.

Police closed the M45 near Dunchurch at 1.35pm yesterday (Tuesday) following reports of a roadside fire.

Fire crews alerted Warwickshire Police and an investigation was launched.

It is not clear not clear whether the body had been set alight.

A post-mortem is taking place today.

Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to a motorist who reported the blaze.

A spokesman said: “The man was travelling west bound from the direction of the M1 towards the A45 Dunchurch roundabout in a dark saloon, possibly a Jaguar.

“The man, who is thought to be in his 40's with dark hair, appeared to be travelling on his own. Officers are urging him to contact them as soon as possible with any information he may have.”

The M45 has been closed in both directions between the A45/M45 Thurlaston roundabout and junction 17 of the M1.
