A RESTAURATEUR was slapped with a £1,995 bill after mouse droppings were discovered in his Coventry kitchen.

Environmental Health inspectors found the droppings in rice and flour bags at The Stanton Club in Stoney Stanton Road.

They also discovered holes through which mice could enter and other dirt during the inspection on September 8, 2008, Coventry magistrates heard.

Former owner Dev Raj, 59, admitted failing to employ adequate procedures to control pests and keep the premises clean.

Magistrates heard the restaurant was closed and reopened following work by a pest control company.

Further visits revealed an improvement in the cleanliness.

Raj – no longer the restaurant owner - was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £995 costs.

New owners took charge of the business earlier this year.
