The Royal Oak

Contact: Earlsdon Street, Coventry
Tel: 024 7667 4140
Real ale: Four on at any one time

Best bit: Table service
Worst bit: Finding it closed during the day

The Oak is a wonderfully typical old man’s pub so it’s a great place to catch up with friends when you want to find a seat and be able to converse without yelling.
A real perk of this pub is the table service. Yes, it’s a tad dangerous, as your typical British politeness means you can’t turn the offer of yet more drinks down. But don’t all the best things in life bring with them a little danger? More drinks?!
The Oak has a dinky little beer garden at the back consisting of a handful of tables for smokers.
This would also make it perfect for sunny Saturday afternoon drinking, but on the two occasions we’ve tried it we’ve found it closed.
There are always three ales to choose from and the staff are more than happy to let you sample before you buy. A splendid boozer.
