This is a butchers with a twist – a South African twist.
Ostrich, bison, zebra, venison, crocodile fillet, wildebeest, springbok, wild boar, impala, kudu and kangaroo are all on sale.
Yes it’s a bit like an edible wildlife programme.
The shop opened in 2006 when Mr Francis realised that nobody in the Midlands actually catered for South Africa or Zimbabwe in a butchery way.
He specialises in boerewors – a spiced beef sausage hailed as a favourite by former Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Biltong and drywors, cow foot, oxtail and ox tongue, roadrunners, goat and mutton are also available.
One of the most curious products on sale is the Beerbird.
This contraption holds an open beer onto which a chicken is squashed. The beerbird is then put in the oven for a couple of hours.
The idea is the beer moistens and flavours the bird although we haven’t tried it. (Anyone who has please let us know what it's like in the comments section below).
