AN ALTERNATIVE musical take on Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Match Girl is coming to Warwick Arts Centre.
After the success of Shockheaded Peter, The Tiger Lillies are set to interpret the fairy tale with a blend of world music, jazz, eerie falsetto and subtle raven-black sardonic wit.
A night with The Tiger Lillies is said to transport the audience back to Berlin's cabarets of the 1920s.
Their stories are full of eccentricity, blasphemy and weirdness, but also full of fantasy, poetry, magic and love.
With humour, the band celebrates an obscure macabre giving an unsettling, freaky show and a sad account of the dark side of life.
Variety magazine say of the show : “The tone is of a mesmerizing, mystical chimera - equal parts Kurt Weill (and Bertolt Brecht), Astor Piazzolla, Angelo Badalamenti, Tom Waits, Sgt. Pepper and flea circus… the overall feel is of a surreal music hall panto”
The Little Match Girl runs on February 17 and 18 at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost between £16 and £20.
